Cal OES assures East Riders that an alternative shuttle option will available

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) wishes to alert East Bay riders the fare-free vaccine shuttles serving the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum will cease operations beginning Monday, April 19.

AC Transit is proud to have partnered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), and the Alameda County Public Health Department to assist in the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to communities once described as “left behind in prioritization.”

Since the launch of fare-free shuttles in February, AC Transit has helped ensure that more than 3500 East Bay residents received this life-saving vaccine.

We were recently advised by Cal OES that our transit services are no longer required. As such, every 15-minute direct shuttle from Coliseum BART and every 20-minute shuttle from Eastmont Transit Center will cease operations when the mass vaccine site closes its business day at 7:00 pm, Sunday, April 18.

Cal OES assures East Riders that a shuttle option will continue for individuals with access and functional needs arriving by public transit at the Coliseum stop to access the pedestrian village for vaccination appointments. Cal OES directs additional transportation inquiries to the Q&A section of MyTurn.ca.gov.

AC Transit Line 73, from Eastmont Transit Center to Oakland International Airport, is still available to riders seeking vaccines at the Coliseum. Riders should exit at Coliseum BART.

Our trusted health partner, the Alameda County Public Health Department, reminds East Bay residents that the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum vaccine site will continue to administer the COVID-19 vaccine as our best opportunity to end this pandemic. Vaccine appointments are now available for any Californian 16 years of age and older.

AC Transit has operated safe and reliable service to the East Bay for the past 60 years, including the vaccine shuttles, and stands ready to assist state and local agencies should future needs arise.
