AC TRANSIT TEMPORARILY RESUMES ONE OAKLAND COLISEUM VACCINE SHUTTLE: MAY 3 – MAY 9

Cal OES is temporarily reopening the Coliseum mass vaccine site’s Pedestrian Village

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) alerts East Bay riders the one AC Transit fare-free vaccine shuttle has resumed service, starting Monday, May 3, and ceasing operations Sunday, May 9.

The temporarily reactivated vaccine shuttle will operate every 15-minutes directly from Coliseum BART to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum’s Pedestrian Village. 

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) advised our transit district in April that the mass vaccine site would remain open, and the Pedestrian Village would shutter. In turn, AC Transit received notice the vaccine shuttle was no longer required. 

Since last months’ notice, Cal OES advises COVID-19 vaccine recipients who have received their first dose need transportation to the Coliseum’s Pedestrian Village to complete the second dose.

“AC Transit previously announced our operational readiness to assist the state or local agencies should the need arise, and we remain committed to slowing and ultimately stopping the transmission of COVID-19. That is why we overwhelmingly support public transit access to the vaccine,” says AC Transit Board President, Elsa Ortiz.

AC Transit Line 73, from Eastmont Transit Center to Oakland International Airport, is still available to riders seeking vaccines at the Coliseum. Riders should exit at Coliseum BART. 

The Alameda County Public Health Department reminds East Bay residents that COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available for people who live or work in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties, who are 16 and older.

The fare-free shuttle will resume immediately for one week only – the duration of time Cal OES will restore operations at the Pedestrian Village.
